Hitler's Lost Submarine
- Episodes One & Two
In 1991, U.S. professional diver John Chatterton descended to a dangerously
low level of 230 feet to what he thought was an old barge. What he found
instead was a German U-boat with torpedoes and bodies of its crew intact,
lying a mere 60 miles off the coast of New Jersey. Follow his quest
to discover how the sub got there, why it sank, and what the exact role
of subs was in World War II. In a pursuit across the globe for answers
that takes over six years and costs three lives, Chatterton comes up
with startling information and coincidences.

Raising of the U534
Off the coast of Norway on May 5, 1945, with World War II all but over,
a British Royal Air Force plane, a RAF Liberator, sank a German U-boat,
the U534. The sub's crew didn't know its cargo, but rumors were rife:
a hoard of gold, stolen and looted art treasures, perhaps even Hitler's
mistress, Eva Braun, herself. During the attack, the ship's crew managed
to scramble to safety just as the damaged but mostly intact hull of
the U534 slipped down into one of the deepest crevices of the freezing
sea. After 50 years underwater, and in almost impossible salvage conditions,
the U534 reveals its secrets as leading salvage experts raise the wreck
and find out what the ship carried in its hold.
