WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF
. EP 1
Monday To Friday @ 8:00 PM HK/SIN
What Would Happen If..? The show that's all about asking questions
and finding answers.
A brand new series for The National Geographic Channel hosted by
Dr. Marty Jopson.
Amongst the subjects that Marty presents is 'throw away your fridge'
where he eats six year old chow mein and we see the result of leaving
food items out of a fridge for a month in his kitchen; he attempts
to unlock a car at another location from his home phone via a mobile
phone by the car; he drops three individual cars from a crane to
see if they really do explode; and he tries to hatch a chicken from
an egg bought in a supermarket.
During the series we visit a lightning laboratory and see What
Would Happen If you hit various objects with a lightning bolt ranging
from an umbrella to a water melon.
Jem Stansfield and Chris Hill, our scientific duo, build various
props to find out What Would Happen If
? on such a diverse
range of objects as ice runners on a sled for a summer (winter)
sport; would a nodding dog kill you if you had to do an emergency
stop; can you make breakfast in a paper bag over an open campfire
etc.
Mike Bullivant, our 'kitchen' scientific expert will produce extraordinary
things with food items ie. make plastic out of potatoes; extract
DNA from a kiwi fruit; and make soap from combining fats with a
caustic agent.
Our Go Large presenters - Little and Large - test 'larger than
normal' items such as a huge water balloon which is dropped from
a great height onto a car; seeing the effect of settling alight
7,000 sparklers; creating a yo yo from a wooden cable reel and dropping
it from a crane; firing a large water rocket; and dropping a copious
amount of silly putty from a great height etc.
Dr Nikki Woolmore, a ballistics expert fires bullets at various
everyday items to test whether, for instance, if your mobile was
hit whilst on your person, could it save your life.
Our three Brains In A Box, Professors Jim-Al-Khalili; Noel Sharkey;
and Heinz Wolff have ten minutes per show to answer questions of
such scientific depth as 'What Would Happen If
? the force
of gravity was twice as strong; if there was no friction in the
world; if we were contacted by aliens; and so on.
