The First National Geographic Channel in High-Definition in Asia Pacific -

Singapore, 18 January 2007 - National Geographic Channels International (NGCI) today announces the launch of its first 24-hour high-definition television (HDTV) channel in Singapore. In a distribution partnership with StarHub, National Geographic Channel HD marks the latest addition to National Geographic Channel's family of factual-entertainment television channels in Singapore and Asia, which includes National Geographic Channel, National Geographic Wild and the adventure channel, A1.

Singapore is the first country in Asia Pacific to broadcast the 24-hour National Geographic Channel in full 1080-i high-definition. Singapore will join the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Canada, France and the Netherlands in carrying the high-definition channel. National Geographic Channel HD, now available on StarHub Digital Cable Channel 301, is a different channel from National Geographic Channel (in standard-definition), which has been on StarHub's Digital Cable service since 1998.

Mr Ward Platt, Executive Vice President and Group Managing Director for Asia Pacific, National Geographic Channels International says, "Today is a defining moment for StarHub and National Geographic Channel, as we break exciting new ground to bring HDTV into the living rooms across Singapore. National Geographic Channel HD will redefine the way we explore the world - offering viewers breathtaking images and incredible surround sound, in the way our award-winning filmmakers intended."

"We are very excited about our HDTV launch, and are proud that we are the first operator in Southeast Asia to introduce the service commercially," says Mr Terry Clontz, President and Chief Executive Officer of StarHub. "StarHub and National Geographic Channel have a longtime partnership that dates back to the early days of cable television in Singapore. National Geographic Channel is known for its riveting, high-quality educational programmes, and we are glad that we can leverage our close working relationship to give our customers even more world-class entertainment."

National Geographic Channel HD provides viewers with award-winning documentary programmes, compelling stories of unsurpassed quality and a superior level of credibility that the world has come to expect. Featuring world-renowned explorers and cutting-edge filmmakers, National Geographic Channel HD takes viewers into the heart of the action. From science, the modern world and investigations to lost cultures and natural history, National Geographic Channel in high-definition will offer viewers unique insights, groundbreaking findings and a truly unforgettable television experience - all in amazing detail, vibrant colours and theatre-quality 5.1-channel surround sound.
