| 14 May 2008, SINGAPORE - In
celebration and support of the spirit of Special Olympics, National Geographic
Channel Asia has partnered with DHL to showcase an exclusive photography
exhibition titled "BE INSPIRED - IGNITING THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS SPIRIT"
in Singapore, New Delhi and Shanghai by award-winning photographer, Jeff
Hutchens.
In 2007, DHL and Special Olympics partnered to bring the Special Olympics
"Flame of Hope" to Shanghai for the Special Olympics World Summer
Games in early October 2007. Starting from Athens, the "Flame of
Hope" was taken around the world to Cairo, London, Washington D.C., Seoul,
Tokyo and Sydney, before it arrived in China, where it was taken to 14 cities
and provinces including Hong Kong and Macau.
Special inspiring moments from the Global Law Enforcement Torch Run leading up
to the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games were documented on camera by
Jeff Hutchens, the lead photographer, culminating in the presentation of this
exclusive heartwarming photography exhibition. Shot in black-and-white, the
photographs captured the essence of Special Olympics in its full glory; paying
tribute to the athletes - not only for their courage but also their commitment
to sports. Jeff regularly shoots for several international publications and has
won multiple awards in the prestigious National Press Photographers Association
(NPAA) Best of Photojournalism competition, Pictures Of The Year (POYi), World
Press Photo and White House News Photographers (WHNPA) Eyes of History
competition.
During the month of May 2008, people in three cities across Asia - Singapore,
New Delhi and Shanghai will have the opportunity to view these spectacular
moments and be inspired to ignite the spirit of Special Olympics.
Additionally, National Geographic Channel will premiere The Making of the 2007
Special Olympics Opening Ceremony on 21 June at 7pm (HKG/SGP/MAL). The one-hour
television special will take viewers behind the scenes on the making of the
Special Olympics grand finale in Shanghai. Please check with your local
operator for telecast details.
Says Mr. Avinash Himatsinghani, Senior Vice President of Advertising Sales &
Partnerships at National Geographic Channel Asia, "Special Olympics is all
about changing perceptions and thus the world. It is a unique global
competitive sporting event that advocates acceptance and inclusion into our
community. National Geographic Channel's partnership with DHL symbolizes the
immense synergy in educating and engaging people the world over on issues close
to their hearts. As such, the intense moments captured by Jeff Hutchens in
print are a great way to showcase the efforts of the Special Olympians and to
inspire our audiences in living the spirit of Special Olympics."
"DHL is committed to giving back to the community, and we are delighted to
have the opportunity to partner with National Geographic Channel in this
milestone event," said Mr Herbert Vongpusanachai, General Manager of DHL
Express Singapore. "We hope that our partnership will further promote fair
opportunities and support diversity to celebrate individual performances that
are not based on physical attributes."
Dr. Timothy Shriver, Chairman of Special Olympics International, says, "We
believe strongly in the transformation of communities by inspiring people to
open their minds, accept and include people with intellectual disabilities and
thereby celebrate the similarities common to all people. We are very pleased to

spirit of Special Olympics with the world."
