National Geographic Channel and Samsung in Regional Marketing Alliance

Singapore, 18 January 2007 - National Geographic Channel Asia and Samsung Asia today jointly announce their regional marketing alliance to educate consumers and promote high-definition television (HDTV) across the Southeast Asia and Oceania (Australia and New Zealand) regions. Through this partnership, viewers will get to experience the real world through National Geographic Channel HD on Samsung high-definition televisions, delivering true vibrant colour and amazing detail in theatre-quality 5.1-channel surround sound.

Leveraging on their established relationship, National Geographic Channel and Samsung will educate consumers on the benefits of HD and promote the arrival of National Geographic Channel HD, the commercial 24-hour full 1080-i high-definition channel in Singapore, the first in Asia Pacific. Starting from January 2007, the campaign is expected to reach more than 24 million television viewers.

Mr Ward Platt, Executive Vice President and Group Managing Director of Asia Pacific, National Geographic Channels International says, "The arrival of National Geographic Channel HD marks the beginning of a new television era in Asia. With the high-definition channel, the experience of exploring the real world on National Geographic Channel will never be the same. National Geographic Channel HD, a trusted brand in delivering compelling stories, breathtaking visuals and incredible surround sound will transform your living room and take you right into the heart of the action. We are excited with our partnership with Samsung for the launch of National Geographic Channel HD."

"Samsung is looking forward to this partnership with National Geographic Channel to provide consumers with the superior viewing experience that HD offers. Our comprehensive suite of HD home-theatre offerings can enrich viewers' enjoyment of the National Geographic Channel's superior quality and riveting high-definition content," said Mr David Henry, General Manager, Corporate Marketing, Samsung Asia.

Added Mr Platt, "Our decision to partner Samsung is a strategic one. There is no better way to showcase our award-winning and cutting-edge content, best viewed on HD televisions from one of the world's leading consumer electronics corporations."

Fronting the National Geographic - Samsung campaign are on-ground displays and consumer road shows to deliver the true marvel of high-definition. The interactive high-definition experience will be enhanced through a variety of platforms including dedicated web sites, and the showcasing of breathtaking National Geographic Channel HD trailers at Samsung retail outlets. The integrated campaign will showcase the advantages of high-definition television and how it will dramatically change the way we experience the real world of National Geographic Channel.

Other communications include airing specially produced consumer awareness vignettes and Samsung television commercial spots (TVC) on National Geographic Channel. Additionally, Samsung will sponsor the award-winning wildlife documentary series by the acclaimed wildlife filmmakers, Dereck and Beverly Joubert and "Cousteau: Ocean Adventures" series by the world-renowned ocean explorer and filmmaker, Jean-Michel Cousteau. Dereck and Beverly Joubert will personally present and showcase their award-winning high-definition documentary programmes in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland.

Featuring world-renowned explorers and cutting-edge filmmakers, National Geographic Channel HD takes viewers right into the heart of action. From science, the modern world and investigations to lost cultures and natural history, National Geographic Channel in high-definition will offer viewers unique insight, groundbreaking findings and a truly unforgettable television experience - all in amazing detail, vibrant colour and theatre-quality 5.1-channel surround sound.

National Geographic Channel's partnership with Samsung will ensure that the channel's exciting HD programmes are viewed on HDTVs of the highest quality for the ultimate visual experience. Samsung leads the global market for colour TV sales and is also the global leader in the cutting-edge LCD TV segment.
