26 February 2008, Taiwan - National Geographic Channels
International (NGCI) and Taiwan's Government Information Office (GIO) today
jointly announce the global premiere of the second season of Taiwan to the
World, airing exclusively on National Geographic Channel. Taiwan to the World
is the only documentary production initiative in Taiwan by NGCI and GIO that
reaches a global audience.
Season 2 of Taiwan to the World consists of 5 x one-hour original programming to
unravel the little known secrets of Taiwan. The all new season will first
premiere in Taiwan on every Sunday at 9.00 pm (TWN), starting 2 March 2008. The
season will later premiere on National Geographic Channel's 270 million homes
in 166 countries and in 34 languages.
Produced under the supervision of NGCI's Asian-based award-winning production
team, viewers can look forward to the same unrivalled production quality and
compelling storytelling that pushes the boundary of our understanding. The all
new season explores the diverse contemporary subjects on the edge, from the
breeding of the transgenic florescent pigs to the modern-day relevance of
martial arts and from cricket fighting to conserving the endangered Taiwanese
black bears.
Mr Bryan Smith, Executive Vice President of Productions at National Geographic
Channels International, says, "National Geographic Channel viewers from around
the world have always been fascinated with inspiring stories from Asia and
Taiwan. With the second season of Taiwan to the World, we applaud the
first-rate creativity and production capability of the Taiwanese producers as
they invite viewers to rethink the way we understand our modern world."
GIO Deputy Minister William Yih says, "Taiwan to the World, a first-time
initiative that started from 2003 by the Government Information Office and
National Geographic Channels International, showcases nine films with subjects
that range from Taiwanese local customs and culture to the richness of
Formosa's natural environment. That was the first time that Taiwan undertakes a
multinational project with an international media for documentary production.
This clearly demonstrates the efforts of Taiwan's government to elevate the
standards of domestic documentary filmmaking. After one year of production, we
bring to you five films in Taiwan to the World S2 that reveals the beauty of
Taiwan to National Geographic Channel's global audience."
Mr Bryan Smith added, "We are certain that the all new season of Taiwan to the
World will follow the same success as the first and once again, put Taiwan on
the world stage. Taiwan to the World is dedicated to our partner, Taiwan's
Government Information Office and the people of Taiwan."
