Singapore 23 July 2007 – National Geographic Channel
Asia today announces that the television premiere In the Womb: Twins, Triplets
and Quads topped the factual-entertainment channels chart across Asia: Hong
Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan and India.
The premiere of the critically-acclaimed 2-hour programme on 24 June 2007 was
preceded by an integrated marketing campaign that encompassed on-air promotion,
online interactive as well as full-house cinema screenings in the key cities of
Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. Over 200 entries poured in to take part in
the first-of-its-kind In the Womb: Twins Contest. Viewer participation was
encouraged through on-air promos and short vignettes showcasing the two pairs
of twins and a set of quintuplets. Nearly 8,000 votes were cast for the 3
categories: "The Most Indistinguishable Twins", "The Most
Inseparable Twins" and "The Most Irresistible Twins". Results of
the weekly contest and the winners’ entries can be found on the contest

In the Womb: Twins, Triplets and Quads follows the success of the first In the
Womb premiered in 2005. Over five times the usual ratings, In the Womb: Twins,
Triplets and Quads surpassed expectations in Hong Kong and Singapore, making
the 2-hour National Geographic Channel television special the number one
international documentary programme for the day in Singapore. The 2-hour
premiere was the highlight of “In the Womb” theme week special,
which was another major success with young women. In total, more than 225,000
Singaporeans watched the specials between 24 June and 1 July 2007, with 14% of
women between 15 and 44 years old having seen it.

Womb special programming from 8 June – 1 July 2007 in Taiwan. In the Womb
specials on Friday nights at 9pm made National Geographic Channel the top rated
international documentary channel amongst cable viewers 18+. In India, a
special theme week called “The Story of Birth” was created from 7
May – 20 May 2007. The shows were highly successful and reached more than
14 million people.
IN THE WOMB: TWINS, TRIPLETS AND QUADS
The 2-hour National Geographic Channel television special utilises
groundbreaking technology to take viewers into the extraordinary world of
twins, triplets and quadruplets as they develop in utero. The special follows
the stories of three expectant mothers from conception to birth and travels
inside the womb to see the tiny foetuses begin to interact with each other -
pushing, kicking and even what looks like playing and kissing.
Encore: The 2-hour documentary will repeat on National Geographic Channel on 20
July 10pm and 27 July 4 pm (HKG/ SGP/ MAL).
